SAINT JAMES EPISCOPAL CHURCH
VESTRY MEETING MINUTES
JUNE 20, 2006
Present: Sylvia Weston, Michele Collins, Peter Merrell, Mark Agard, David Cameron, Steve Cox, Mardi Moran
Absent: Susan Harris, Jacquelyn Ross, Ross Speer, Jennifer Schley, Trish Morck (about to give birth), David Hall
The meeting began with an opening and prayer with Sylvia Weston leading.
We met with Chris Morck to vote on his application as a potential postulant and candidate for the Priesthood. His committee members were present to answer questions and present their support for him. Present were John Hixson, Nancy McCardle, and Marian King. We had an opportunity to ask questions and after this we agreed unanimously to support his application.
We then met with Sylvia Weston to vote on her application to become a deacon in the Episcopal Church. John Hixson was present from her discernment committee to support their support of her. We had an opportunity to ask questions and then voted unanimously to support her application.
At the meeting we did have a quorum. Members present stated that some of the absent members (Susan Harris) had already indicated a yes vote although they were not present. We decided to send an email to the rest of the vestry indicating that the forms to sign are in Michele Collins' box at the church and encouraging them to come in and indicate their vote sometime in the next week, or as soon as possible.
Peter Merrell gave a Property Committee Report. He requested that the vestry vote to approve the low bid contractor for the exterior masonry repairs. David Cameron made a motion, Steve Cox seconded and it passed to do this with some changes. Peter will send a letter to the company accepting their bid.
Peter reported that a review is underway by Susan Fisher to compare our current property insurance coverage with a separate insurer. Peter Merrell suggested that we have the renters sign waivers if they do not carry their own insurance coverage for the rented areas. Peter Merrell will follow up with the current tenants regarding these issues.
David Cameron and Sylvia Weston reviewed the schedule of priests for the summer. We have supply people covering for the summer. David and Sylvia are going to plan a meeting with the recommended interim person. Beulah Kouloris. Michele Collins and Steve Cox are going to visit her church and listen to her preach this coming Sunday.
Due to a lack of time, old business and the review of minutes was deferred to our next meeting.
The vestry then reviewed the suggestions for the search committee for a new Priest. Anne Shumway has accepted an invitation to sit on the search committee.
Vestry members are instructed to bring recommendations for more candidates to the next meeting.
