WELCOME TO OUR NEW RECTOR HOLLY LYMAN ANTOLINI
This Sunday St. James's will be honored to have our new Rector, Holly Lyman Antolini, preach and officiate services for the first time! This culminates 20 months of interim ministry and symbolizes the start of a new chapter era in our community tapestry. Please come, listen, worship and celebrate Holly's arrival on Sunday. A special coffee hour will follow in honor of our first Sunday together. Be sure to grab a nametag and come greet her after the service, so she can learn your name!
THANK YOU DEAR FRIENDS
You gave me the most wonderful send-off in prayer, music and gifts. I cannot tell you how joyful I felt, not to be leaving you, but to know that you are in such a wonderful space to move forward in you life in God. Thank you for giving me the opportunity to walk with you these last few months. I am headed to N.C. this week to visit my mom, and am so sad that I cannot travel with my lovely drum; however, since I am already driving everyone around me crazy with my feeble attempts to sound like Tom and Steve, I have already arranged for lessons to begin when I get back. Peace to you all, Susan Richmond
GOOD LUCK & GOD BLESS
Today we offer a special blessing to send parish member Jodi Mikalachki on a three-year mission in Burundi with the Mennonite Central Committee.
BLESSINGS TO JOHN BUTLER III as he graduates this weekend from Marine boot camp at Camp LeJeune, North Carolina and Godspeed to John and Barbara as they travel there to celebrate with him.
20-35 ACTIVITIES AT ST. JAMES'S Now that the flowers are starting to bloom and the weather warming, we wanted you all to know the latest goings-on at St. James's.
April 27th - Holly's First Sunday & Brunch
Welcome our New Rector to St. James's! April 27th will be Holly Antolini's first Sunday as Rector of St. James's. Welcome her to St. James's by coming, listening and meeting her. Afterward we'll head out to brunch either at Andy's or Christopher's.
May 4th - 20-35's Sponsoring Coffee Hour
Our Hospitality Committee does a great job hosting Coffee Hour every week, but in our community we all take turns to help out. We are hosting Coffee Hour on May 4th, which will include making the coffee, bringing food for Coffee Hour, setting up and taking down the tables and helping to feed those who come after service. Please let Laine or I know by May Day (May 1st) if you can help. We'll bring fruit, vegetables, crackers, cheese, meat and anything else you care to make or bring.
May 11th - Mother's Day
An annual tradition at St. James's will resume again on Mother's Day when the men of St. James's take their rightful place in the Kitchen and serve all for Mother's Day during the Coffee Hour. This is a special Coffee Hour where we serve fine appetizers on trays in our Sunday best. Suits are strongly preferred for male servers! It is always fun and enjoyable.
Interested in being on the 20-35 listserv? E-mail Michael Young, Senior Warden, at kucimat@yahoo.com!
NOT TOO LATE
The St. James's Earth Day Shopping Bags were such a hit I'm reordering so if you were absent last week and missed out you can pre-order one or a dozen. They're perfect for Mother's Day, your kid's teacher or soccer coach, or for yourself. At only $5 each you'll want one for the
Back hall, one to keep in the car, one for your laptop. Email Anne Read: anne@justprint.org or see me at coffee hour.
NEW SERVICE MUSIC
The Caribbean Mass is a setting of Mass movements in musical styles from the West Indies. Each movement uses the beats and rhythms of a particular dance. The composer, Richard Ho Lung, has taken the traditional congregational prayers and exclamations and artfully woven them together to create a joyful and exuberant celebration. Thank you to Sylvia Weston for commending the Caribbean Mass to us, and thanks to the Choirs for leading us in the singing.
We will be singing the Caribbean Mass today and again for Trinity Sunday and Memorial Day Weekend. Our live band of St. James's parishioners who will be accompanying this piece include Jeff Olivet, Phil Hassett, Tom Hirschi, Steve Clark, David Cameron and Pat Michaels and Tess Pope. Please be sure to invite your friends for these special celebrations.
HANDEL'S UTRECHT JUBILATE As a major portion of the Liturgy of the Word at the 10:30 service on May 4th, the Choirs of St. James's offer a performance of Handel's Utrecht Jubilate. Handel wrote this piece in honor of the Peace of Utrecht (1713). Its text is from Psalm 100, and we will sing in English. This piece, which includes three major choruses, solos, a duet and a trio, will be accompanied by orchestral musicians of St. James's. It is between 20 and 25 minutes in length and will begin very shortly after 10:30. Choir members should make sure they have a rehearsal schedule for the next week. Thank you. Pat Michaels
