WELCOME OUR NEW RECTOR: HOLLY LYMAN ANTOLINI
On March 9th, the parish affirmed the search committee and the vestry in approving the calling of Holly Lyman Antolini to be the next rector of St. James. Holly is a dedicated and passionate person who first felt called to a life in Christ nearly 30 years ago. Her efforts have taken her from the Church Divinity School of the Pacific (the Episcopal Seminary of the West) to more than a decade serving a variety of parishes and positions along the coast of Maine to over 4 years serving a large urban parish in Richmond, Virginia. She brings enthusiasm, experience, a respect for all peoples and an appreciation of the needs of our congregation to the position of Rector. Her particular areas of concentration have led here to develop ministries focused on youth, the environment, community building and urban service and combating racism. She is a mother of two grown daughters, an avid swimmer and musician, and a voracious reader.
Holly is set to officially join us on Sunday, April 27th. But you do not have to wait that long to meet her - she will join us this Sunday (March 16th) for both services as well as the Pancake Breakfast! Please come and introduce yourself to her and extend a great St. James welcome. She will take the next month to find a home in the Cambridge/Boston area, and move her belongings from her current residence in Maine.
DON’T FORGET TO WEAR A NAMETAG THIS SUNDAY!
Since Holly Lyman Antolini, will be with us this Sunday let’s show her how much we value hospitality at St. James’s and help her get to know us as we get to know her.
We’re making it extra easy for you.
· Nametag materials will continue to be in the entry to the church (just ask an usher if you don’t see them) and in the vestry on the pin boards. You may keep your tag on the boards between Sundays or take them home.
· There will be baskets with nametags and markers at the ends of some of the pews.
· Since some parents of very young children have expressed concern about the sharp pins on the holders, there are also some clip on and necklace-style holders. (Ask Karen Meridith if you can’t find them, and if you don’t need this style, please continue to be good stewards and re-use the pin holders we have in abundance.)
· This Sunday, nametag materials will be available in the parish hall during the breakfast.
As always, if you lose or forget your nametag, just make another one. Grace abounds!
PALM SATURDAY: An overnight exploration of Holy Week for children and teens.
On Saturday, March 15th, children 4th grade and older are invited to participate in a lock-in sleepover at St. James’s. We’ll gather at 5PM in the Parish Hall and together cook and eat dinner. Then we will tackle the story of Holy Week from the triumphal entry into Jerusalem, the Last Supper, the trial and crucifixion, and the final victory over death. Art, drama and sharing will inform our imagination and prepare us to welcome the risen Christ. Compline will ease us into what will probably NOT be the most restful of nights. The next morning, Palm Sunday, we will help prepare and serve the Pancake Breakfast closer to each other and much closer to the Story. Each person should bring a sleeping bag or blanket, pillow, toothbrush, etc. Personal stereos are not allowed. Also, please don’t bring candy or food unless you bring enough for all. RSVP. Please email Anne anne@justprint to let her know if you can come. Let her know if your child has food allergies, etc.

A model seder will be held for children and families to learn about and
celebrate the meaning and the rituals of this ancient tradition- dipping greens
in salt water, recalling the ten plagues, inviting Elijah's return, and sharing
matzah, the "bread of affliction." Following the commandment
"You shall tell it to your children!" we will hear the founding story
of Judaism - the story of the birth of a people and an evolved understanding of
God. We look forward to a lively and enjoyable gathering of the Community for
this event.
Note: Interfaith Community Boston plans to hold family services and celebrations
for major holidays. Using authentic liturgy, we aim to make the eternal meaning
and ancient traditions of religious holidays accessible to all. Our services
are written to help individuals remain connected to their traditions and share
them with their families, while learning to understand other faiths. They are
intimate, participatory services, researched, written and led by Interfaith
Community members, with advice and participation from our religious advisors. *This will be a non-dinner event. Please
bring an appetizer/snack to share. Babysitting available. Contact:
