St. James's Choir Helps Celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. Day

There was no way to celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. in Somerville without mentioning the words"Barack Obama" and "the inauguration" liberally. With lots of talk about the week's events in Washington D.C., on January 17th, the Somerville Human Rights Commission hosted its annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration, "Realizing the Dream," at the Somerville High School, honoring both national events and local leaders for keeping hope alive.  One of the sponsoring Somerville Human Rights Commission's board members is Yvette P. Verdieu, who happens to be a choir member of the St. James's Episcopal Church.  She invited her choir to perform during the celebration of Dr. King and and President Obama's Inauguration. The uplifting and spectacular songs the choir sang truly represented the spirit of Dr. King's message of love, forgiveness, and justice; and President Obama's message of hope and positive change for all, no matter your race, religion, background, or gender. Under the direction of choir director Patrick Michaels  the St. James's Episcopal Church Choir put on a display  with "The Battle of Jericho", "Oh, Freedom" and "We Shall Overcome" that will be remembered for a long time to come. --Yvette P.
