Wednesday, November 30, 2011 at 01:26PM Hello!
My name is Reed Loy and I am excited to be joining the staff at St. James’s! My position is ‘Community and Justice Fellow’, which is an exciting way of alluding to which exciting ministries I get to be a part of. Predominantly, I am joining Rev. Edwin in Social Justice, Young Adult, and Welcome Ministries. I am also happy to have been drawn into the church school and liturgical participation on Sundays.
The path that has led me to St. James’s is an exciting one. I grew up in the Episcopal Church, and have enjoyed a number of ministries, from volunteer to full-time and from Vestry to mission trips. Most recently, I was a campus ministry intern at Keene State College in southwest New Hampshire. While there, I felt drawn to explore a sense of call to the ordained ministry. I have been in the formal process of discerning that call for over a year now, and excitedly look forward to seminary in the future. Before that, however, I wanted to experience a couple of things I hadn’t before; long-term social justice ministry, and urban ministry. After being accepted to the Diocese of Massachusetts Micah Fellow program, I was particularly drawn to St. James’s by your focus on social justice and mission work, and by the diverse sense of liturgy and worship. These characters of St. James’s came through in the interview process, in reading the website, and even from friends of mine who had visited the church! Now that I have arrived and begun to join in the work of the Spirit at St. James’s, my excitement has grown that much more for the year ahead.
I look forward passionately to joining with you, to learning together, and through grace, to bringing the Kingdom of God near. When you see me wandering around the church, I hope you’ll say ‘hi!’
