Christian Formation for Adults

Book group and Bible study offerings include:

Praxis on Tuesdays mornings

On Tuesday mornings at 7:30 am, we gather in the church office at 2161 Mass Ave. on the corner of Milton St., for an hour of "spiritual practice" or "praxis." After opening with a brief time of prayer and praise, we focus on an exploration of the coming Sunday's Gospel lesson. We use the technique of lectio divina, or spiritual reading, letting God’s Word address our lives and listening to each other share what God’s Word says to them. This is a drop-in event; no preparation is necessary.

Sunday Morning Bible Study

Thousands of years and countless cultural barriers separate us from the worlds that created and preserved our scriptures. Yet it is the same story of the Holy Spirit that begins in the Bible and continues today that binds us together with God's people of the past (and future). Join Judy Gay, Reed Carlson & Olivia Hamilton for Bible Study on Sunday mornings at 9:15 AM in the Vestry room off our side chapel to learn and experience more of what makes scripture so fascinatingly foreign yet fortuitously familiar. Whether you've read a lot of the Bible or you're just starting out, our meetings are for you.

Book Club on the fourth Sunday of the month, following the 10:30 service

The Book Club has chosen Jesus and the Disinherited by Howard Thurman as its next book.  Please obtain a copy of the book, preferably the 1996 Beacon Press addition, and read Chapters 1 and 2 for December 18.  Please note and be prepared to share what strikes you in what you read. We will meet in the nursery on December 18 following the 10:30 service.  Normally we meet the fourth Sunday, but we are changing our schedule this month due to Christmas.   All are welcome whether you have a copy of the book yet or not.

“If it is true, as some accounts indicate, that Martin Luther King, Jr. often carried a copy of this text on his many journeys, then there are creative connections along the wall [of racism] that may exceed even our greatest expectations.” – Vincent Harding
